A voice. A notebook. An unresolved mystery.
A voice cuts through the static.
It might be hers.
About the album
Tune in.
Listen closer.
In 1937, fifteen-year-old Betty Klenck heard a voice on her shortwave radio that she believed belonged to Amelia Earhart. She wrote down what she heard. Decades later, her notebook remains a compelling and contested part of the mystery.
Nicholas Reeves’s musical adaptation places you beside that radio. Choral voices, jazz, and radio interference draw you into a world of fragments and distant signals, where each sound brings you closer to a story that still resists an answer.
From concert stages to a programmable artwork, Betty’s Notebook has taken on new forms. Now, hear Verdigris Ensemble’s performance in a forthcoming digital album, part of Season 10: BREATH.
