About the residency
From sculpture
to sound.
Verdigris Ensemble and the Nasher Sculpture Center are developing a residency that brings the human voice into conversation with works in the Nasher’s collection.
Working with the museum’s curatorial and education staff, Verdigris will create and commission new vocal music in direct response to sculpture. The collection becomes a starting point for musical discovery: a way to experience art through sound as well as sight.
The residency is being shaped around public performances, community encounters, and opportunities to experience new work as it develops. It builds on the organizations’ January 2026 collaboration, when Verdigris performed John Cage’s Hymns and Variations for the opening of Rauschenberg Sculpture.
